KENYAN NATIONAL UNDERGOES OPEN HEART SURGERY
Mr. Joseph aged 37 years male, Business men from Kitale, Kenya underwent Tripple Valve Procedure at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.
According to Dr. C N Manjunath Director, he came to the hospital with symptoms of breathing difficulty, fatigue and tiredness. Echocardiogram revealed two left sided valves and one right sided valve were not properly closing, resulting in leakage of blood and gross enlargement of heart chambers.
Dr. Seetharama Bhat, Cardiothoracic Surgeon with his team conducted Surgery replacing both Mitral and Aortic Valve with artificial tissue valves and the right sided tricuspid valve was also repaired. Patient has recovered well and likely to travel back home in couple of days.
According to Dr. C N Manjunath, this type of Rheumatic Valvular Disease is still a public health problem both in India and third world countries affecting lower socio-economic strates, between the age group of 10-30 years. Early recognition, timely treatment of sore throat with improved hygiene can further reduce Rheumatic Valvular Heart Diseases.
